Capcom officially announced Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, during the Summer Game Fest 2026 event, thus ending years of fan demands to revive one of the most popular installments in the series.
Despite the great excitement surrounding the announcement, the news was not entirely unexpected, as previous reports had indicated that Capcom was already working on a Code: Veronica remake, targeting a 2027 release following the successful launch of Resident Evil: Requiem.
According to earlier reports, the project had been in development for some time, while other sources indicated that the company is targeting a release window during the first quarter of 2027. Resident Evil Veronica falls within Capcom's ongoing strategy to revisit modern classics of the series, following the great success achieved by the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4.
Current information also suggests that Capcom is simultaneously working on a remake of Resident Evil Zero, although that project remains further off chronologically than Resident Evil Veronica and has not yet received an official announcement.
During the announcement, Capcom did not reveal extensive details regarding gameplay or targeted platforms. However, the official confirmation of the project's existence represents a long-awaited step for fans of the series, who have considered Code: Veronica one of the most important installments deserving of a modern treatment on par with previous remakes.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica is considered one of the most popular games in the Resident Evil series among players, even though it was not released as a numbered main installment. The original game was first released in 2000 on the Sega Dreamcast, before transforming over the years into one of the installments most demanded by the public for a remake.
The game's events take place almost concurrently with the events of Resident Evil 3, but it focuses on a different story bringing together Claire Redfield and her brother Chris Redfield, as they find themselves facing a new nightmare that begins on a remote prison island before later moving to Antarctica. This installment also marks the return of one of the series' most famous and popular villains, Albert Wesker, who plays a pivotal role in the unfolding events and is considered one of the most prominent figures associated with the history of Resident Evil.
